It is a known fact that Neetu Chandra has turned producer with her 'multiplex Bhojpuri film' titled DESWA. What is not known though (and is pretty surprising as well) is that she won't be playing a lead in the film.
"I go entirely by my director's vision and he felt that I didn't suit the character of the leading lady here", says Neetu whose next Hindi release is Anees Bazmee's NO PROBLEM, "As a producer I could have put my foot down but I have no intentions of doing that ever. One should never interfere in the director's vision."
One wonders though what made Neetu take the plunge. In the times when she could have continued to concentrate on her career as an actor, wasn't it a risky preposition to diversify into production?
"It is important to grow as a professional and a human being and I feel that once you produce your own film, you do get to learn immensely about what goes behind the scenes", reflects Neetu, "Also, it isn't as if I went totally overboard in making this film. It is a small budget film and I have miles to go before I start becoming extravagant. I wanted to use this as a learning experience."
As things stand today, Neetu is planning to release the film before end of year.
Directed by first timer Nitin Chandra, erstwhile assistant to Dibakar Banerjee, DESWA would see the launch of three new male leads - Deepak Singh, Kranti Prakash and Ajay Kumar.
