The twin success of ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI and DABANGG, and before that WANTED, proves beyond doubt that retro and 'masala' is certainly the flavour that audience has given its thumbs up to. All the mentioned films were hard core 'masala' entertainers with full commercial considerations, from sizzling item numbers to 'dhishum-dhishum' seventies style action.
Coming to ACTION REPLAYY, as can be seen from the promos, the film is full of typical sixties and seventies style and 'masala' emotions, with Akshay Kumar emulating his father-in-law, the erstwhile superstar, Rajesh Khanna (in a song) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan looking ravishing in her retro Mumtaz look. Akshay has recently disclosed that he has modelled his look on late Sunil Dutt's ZAKHMEE get up.
The present generation too is represented by VJ Ranvijay, who seems to be doing an outstanding job and stands tall amidst seasoned actors like Aishwarya and Akshay.
This definitely augers well for ACTION REPLAYY that is more or less totally retro in its theme and spirit.
