One look at Emraan Hashmi's repertoire ever since he made his debut with FOOTPATH and it would be pretty apparent that for more than 75% of his outings, he has been actually playing a crook! With a naughty streak pretty prevalent in his characterization, shades of negative surpassing elements of grey and a sense of uncertainty looming large, Emraan has stayed on to be the darling of masses due to these very reasons. With good response coming from the paying public, it was just apt that his next foray with Bhatts and buddy/cousin Mohit Suri resulted in a film that was named as CROOK.
"Well, the film's title does have a recall of Emraan that people have loved in JANNAT. They know that he is the same guy who had a mischievous tone in MURDER and a darker one in ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. They also realise that he is someone who walks his own path. As a title, CROOK does add on a lot to the entertainment quotient", says Emraan when asked if CROOK has turned out to be one such film where a title truly reflects his on-screen image.
However, Emraan does warn that CROOK isn't one of those grey films with a darker tone to them. Instead, it has a fun quotient to it that makes it a thrilling yet breezy affair.
"You would see that the comedy angle here has been notched up further in CROOK", says Emraan, "JANNAT did have excerpts of it but in case of CROOK, it is much higher. Audience will love this new side of my persona in the film as it is a shade higher than before."
Marking the debut of newcomer Neha Sharma, CROOK releases all over on 8th October.
